Dear colleague,
We are glad to invite you to participate in the workshop on biological physics and systems biology titled "FROM COMPUTATIONAL BIOPHYSICS TO SYSTEMS BIOLOGY (CBSB08)", which will take place in Jülich (Germany), from the 19th to the 21st of May 2008.
The workshop will be organized by the John von Neumann Institute for Computing (NIC), the premier supercomputer center in Germany, located at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Jülich, Germany. The goal of the workshop is to bring together expertise from physics, biology, and computer science to discuss current trends in computational biophysics and systems biology. As in previous years, the workshop concerns the following general areas:
* Protein folding (both structure prediction and mechanics) * Interaction between proteins and other molecules * Assembly of nano-structures, multi-protein, protein-DNA/RNA complexes * Cellular systems at the molecular level
Lectures given by invited speakers will discuss recent algorithmic developments and present successful applications of high-performance computing to biology and biochemistry. A list of confirmed invited speakers includes:
* R. Abagyan (Scripps, La Jolla) * C. Brooks III (UM, Ann Arbor) * Ph. Derreumaux (CNRS et U. Paris 7) * R. Elber (UT, Austin) * M. Feig (MSU, East Lansing) * W. van Gunsteren (ETH Zürich) * A. Kolinski (U. Warsaw) * R. Netz (TU München) * H. Orland (CEA-Saclay) * J. J. Rice (IBM, Watson Research Center) * H. A. Scheraga (Cornell, Ithaca) * D. Schomburg (TU Braunschweig) * W. Yang (FSU, Tallahassee)
Participation is free for a limited number of students (with recommendation letter from their advisor or chair), the registration fee for all other participants is Euro 150. Further details about the topics to be covered, list of participants, etc., as well as the registration form can be found at
http://www.fz-juelich.de/cbsb08/.
We invite contributions in the form of poster presentations and a few contributed talks. During registration, please submit an abstract of about 150 words or less about the work you wish to present. A small number of submitted abstracts will be selected for contributed talks. The remaining participants will be able to present their work in the poster session.
All participants, both those presenting talks and those contributing to the poster session, will be expected to contribute a short article about their work for the workshop proceedings, which will be published after the workshop. The deadline for the proceedings is May 19th. Details about length, style, and formatting are available at:
http://www.fz-juelich.de/cbsb08/Proceedings/.
Since the number of participants is limited, we encourage early registration. The registration deadline is April 15th, 2008.
Please circulate this mail among your colleagues who may be interested in this workshop.
With best regards,
Ulrich H.E. Hansmann
