[Mllab] Will the practical lab be held in hybrid form?
Dear Prof. Garcke, I am a Master's student and I'd just like to find out - for the upcoming Practical Lab on "Algorithms in Machine Learning and Their Application", is there any chance the course might be held in hybrid form, or will it be fully held in person? Moreover, is there any possibility for me to participate in the course remotely (and still meet the requirements to pass the course)? If lecture notes/slides are going to be made available on eCampus then it might be possible for me to work on the exercises and submit them, but I am not sure if that would satisfy the requirements necessary to pass the course. Due to the pandemic, I've thus far done all my studies at Bonn from my home country, which is why I ask this question. Kind regards, Shimal
Dear Shimal Harichurn, The lectures are intended on-site with no video recordings planned. There are two kinds of material. The practical exercise sheets, where you can find examples from earlier years here: https://ins.uni-bonn.de/teachings/ss-2019-265-p4e1-practical-lab-nu/ There most of the information for doing the practical parts should be there. This you can do remote. The work is intended to be in groups of two, so it is to be seen if you can find a partner for the sheets working with you remotely. The lectures give additional material on the mathematics and numerics behind the ML algorithms. Without these there won't be the full picture of the ML methods. Parts of the lectures might be available as texed notes, but some not. So it is possible to pass the course if you work remotely on the exercise sheets, but you won't get the full information remotely. Regards, Jochen Garcke On 29/01/2022 15:18, Shimal Harichurn wrote:
