Hallo! Auf Initialisierung der Fachschaft Mathematik wird es kommenden Mittwoch ein Sommerfest der Fachgruppe Mathe,atik geben! HIerzu sind alle Professoren, Dozenten, Doktoranden, Studenten und sonstige SHK's herzlich eingeladen. Also: Mittwoch, 22.7.2009 Ab 19:00 Im Garten der LWK(im Innenhof) Es werden mehrere Grille zu Verfügung gestellt. Bier/Cola kostet 1. Für Brot, wenioge Salate, Plastikbesteck, Pappteller, ... ist gesorgt. Bitte bringt also eingenes Grillgut mit. Über Spenden in Form von Salaten freuen wir uns sehr! Sehr geehrte Herren Professoren, liebe Kollegen und Studenten, im Auftrag von Prof. Griebel weise ich hiermit auf die Ausschreibung des Ada-Lovelace-Prize am INS hin. Dieser Preis belohnt einmal im Jahr (ab 2010) jeweils - die beste Bachelor Arbeit einer weiblichen Studentin mit 500,00 EUR, - die beste Master-/Diplomarbeit einer weiblichen Studentin mit 1000,00 EUR, - die beste Doktorarbeit einer weiblichen Studentin mit 2000,00 EUR. Dear colleagues, I would like to announce a talk of my guest, Andreas Ioannidis Electromagnetic Theory Group Department of Electrical and Information Technology Lund University Sweden Time: Monday, 6.07, 10:15 Place: Room LWK 011 (Endenicher Allee, 60, LWK Altbau) Title: On the mathematical treatment of the propagation problem in electromagnetic theory Abstract The purpose of this talk is to give an overview on the mathematical modelling and solution techniques for the electromagnetic wave propagation problem. As it is well known, the phenomenon is governed by the Maxwell equations and the idea is to look at the problem under a functional analytic (i.e. operator theoretic) point of view. Generally speaking, the approach consists of two essential steps: 1) The formulation of the constitutive relation. This is the modelling part. 2) The formulation of the modified Maxwell system and how to attack it. This is the solvability / well-posedness part. We discuss this general procedure and we show how the theory of evolution equation can be used. We discuss also the time harmonic case and a special geometry (waveguides).
