The implication for equity in mathematics education is that all learners should have access to mathematics education that promotes their creativity which would consequently have an impact on their future success. The development of mathematical creativity should not be considered a luxury that is reserved for a specific group of learners and students, but should form part of socially responsible education on all levels of education. As part of a larger study, five hundred and one pre-service teachers in South Africa solved mathematical modelling tasks to develop and consolidate their own mathematical knowledge, and at the same time develop their creativity and modelling competencies. These experiences of future teachers served as source of reflection and reference in the development of their knowledge of how children learn mathematics and how creativity in school learners can be developed through mathematical modelling. Their motivation to solve modelling tasks and create multiple, original and useful â therefore creative â solutions increased over the period of their exposure to modelling tasks. In a limited extension of the project, 26 future German teachers completed a questionnaire about mathematical creativity and solved a mathematical modelling task. Analysis of the data is still under way. Alle weiteren Termine für das Wintersemester finden Sie hier unter Kolloquien des Mathematischen Instituts <http://www.uni-koblenz-landau.de/koblenz/fb3/mathe/aktuell/kolloquium.html> der Universität Koblenz-Landau, Campus Koblenz.
