Der Forschungslehrstuhl wird mit insgesamt 628.000 Euro für den Zeitraum von vier Jahren ausgestattet sein. Eine gleichzeitige Berufung an die kooperierende Universität Stellenbosch ist vorgesehen. AIMS Südafrika plant nach dreijähriger Förderung zusammen mit der Universität eine Evaluation des Lehrstuhls durchzuführen. Eine Fortsetzung der Position nach Auslaufen der Förderung wird angestrebt. Das AIMS Südafrika ist Teil der AIMS-Next Einstein Initiative, die es sich zum Ziel gemacht hat, bis 2020 ein Netzwerk von 15 überregionalen mathematischen Exzellenzzentren in Afrika zu errichten. Der international ausgeschriebene Forschungslehrstuhl soll dazu beitragen, die Vernetzung des AIMS Südafrika mit deutschen Hochschulen sowie der verschiedenen AIMS-Zentren untereinander voranzutreiben. Im Rahmen des vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) finanzierten Programms "Deutsche Forschungslehrstühle" wird die Humboldt-Stiftung in den nächsten Jahren weitere Forschungslehrstühle an AIMS-Zentren besetzen. Es ist vorgesehen, dass der Forschungslehrstuhl am AIMS Südafrika die Abstimmung der Aktivitäten der bereits von der Humboldt-Stiftung geförderten Vorhaben an den AIMS-Zentren im Senegal und in Ghana sowie den noch einzurichtenden Lehrstühlen in Kamerun und Tansania moderieren wird. In the coming years, this endowed chair will promote higher education and research in mathematics in Africa. This call is aimed at highly qualified postdoctoral academics from any country who have conducted application-related research in the field of mathematics with specialisation in data science and have experience in training students and doctoral candidates. Leadership potential and a willingness to collaborate with other academic disciplines are also desired. The closing date for applications is 15 January 2016. Please note that a willingness to collaborate with universities or research institutions in Germany is a prerequisite.
